The design challenge of this 8,000 sq. ft. residence: to take full advantage of a striking 4-acre bucolic site while respecting the private and understated style of the client’s personal aesthetic. The solution: a treatment that presents an opaque formal face to the street while creating a sheltered, intimate transparency to the back of the property. The home has a traditional front with formality softened by clean, spare detail. The back of the house is informal, characterized by expansive windows that give every major space a view.
